I have to confess that I was somewhat burned out of posting and blogging and all that jazz. It's been great to take a little break for the summer and I know by the end of it, I'll feel recharged! Before I go on vacation with my family, I wanted to leave you with some of my summer loves. Enjoy!

Swimsuit Cover Up

Isn't this the cutest? I'm in my swim suit most days, so a good cover up is a must!

I really wanted to lighten up my bathroom with a cool tone and this is the color I used! I love how much brighter it seems!

Crystal Light

I'm sure you're thinking, "Why is she loving this so much?" Well, on days when I can't eat before the gym, I put it in my water bottle and it gives me that extra boost. Or if we're going to a BBQ and I don't want to eat before, I just sip on this! It's the best!

Hats

This looks almost identical to the hat that I have. I have so many hats that I could probably cover my entire bed with them. In the summer I just go to the gym, shower, put my hair in a low pony, and on with the hat! So easy!

Guest Rooms

I've been finishing decorating our guest room since we're having so many people stay with us this summer. I love the look of this room!

A Quiet Place

Just a Heads Up.....

I may or may not be consistent this summer with my posts. Today my kids and I went to the waterpark we attend yearly. Wow, was it nice to get out of the house. Did it rain on us? Yes, but at least I was outdoors! I really think that I may want to spend more time enjoying my kids instead of sitting at the computer. You know what I mean? So this is my warning and request for forgiveness ahead of time! I'm loving the beachy/coastal look today. (Probably because I saw a million light blue sun umbrellas that reminded me of Coastal Living!)

We're Our Own Worst Critics.....

We had family pictures the other week.

They were frustrating, exhausting and downright stressful. I've been on medication that makes my face puffy and causes weight gain. The only thought I had when I saw the pictures was, "Wow, everyone looks great....but, that fat face of mine."

Good thing my hubs is so encouraging. He basically told me to accept who I am and be grateful for a beautiful family.

So, this is me ignoring my nagging self and posting our family pictures.

Hopefully the kids will cooperate next year!

Drapery Dilemma....

My son's room faces the East. So every morning he wakes up literally at the crack of dawn. My husband and I have had it with the 5:30 a.m. wake up calls (or yells depending on the little man's mood). The problem is that my son has a huge bay window in his room and then a half-moon window above that. So in order to completely be able to block out the light I'm going to have to buy very wide curtains as well as very tall! They're almost going to be floor to ceiling length because we have very high ceilings.

I'm thinking this natural burlap panel from Ballard Designs is what I'm going to buy. The reviews say that it blocks out light magnificently.

If you have these panels or a solution to this problem, please, please let me know what your thoughts are!

I'm quite literally losing sleep over this.

A Summer Recipe

I know I've already posted a recipe like this crustless quiche, but it is a favorite and so delicious. Would you believe that my four-year-old and my almost-two-year-old inhaled their pieces! I was so proud. Here it is:

Crustless Quiche
4 whole eggs beaten
1 cup skim milk
5 asparagus spears cut in 1 in pieces
1/2 yellow bell pepper cubed
1 chicken breast cooked and cubed
1/3 onion diced
1/3 C. shredded cheese plus more for topping.
1 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 tsp. celery salt
1 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp rosemary

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs and milk until thoroughly mixed. Put in your additions and gently fold with a spatula. Put the mixture in an 8 X 8 square glass pan or a pie tin will work too. Sprinkle your cheese on top. Cook for 30-40 mins. (Mine cooked for about 35)

Note: You can make this healthier by doing 3 egg whites and 1 whole egg. Also you can omit the cheese.

Audrey Hepburn Tea Party

I'm so far behind on posting this annual party that my mom holds. She is an amazing woman. Every year, my mother plans an elaborate tea party for all of the girls in the family. Since she has five daughters, two daughters in law, and four granddaughters, it's quite the event. This years' theme was Breakfast at Tiffany's. It was so fun!

All of us had to dress accordingly. I actually had a shirt with Audrey Hepburn's face on it! But, I didn't even win the prize...it was messed up. Anywho, the party was awesome.

We had an etiquette lesson, there was Audrey Hepburn decorations everywhere, the tablescape was gorgeous, and we indulged in loads of food! Oh, and of course, Tiffany Blue was everywhere!

My Mom worked on this party for hours. We had fruit tarts, breakfast casseroles, chocolate-dipped strawberries, scones, mini cupcakes, russian tea (basically a hot juice because we had the little girls there and we don't drink tea.), and a bunch more food. Thanks mom for making this an awesome party!

Flower and Urn Project

So....remember when I painted and glazed this ugly colored urn?

Ugh.

Yes, that's much better.

Well, I've just been holding it in the garage because I can never seem to find the right thing to put in it. I thought, "I'll just make my own flower arrangement." And that's what I did.

I bought all the faux hydrangeas and carnations they had at Everything's a $1 and Wal Mart.

I bought a styrofoam half round and a big styrofoam square.

I glued them against the inside of the urn. After cutting the stems of the flowers with wire cutters, I tightly pushed as many flowers in the foam as I could.

Voila!

It could use a couple more flowers.

But, for a $10 project, not too shabby!

I know, I haven't posted in a week! My husband owns his own business and has been working from home due to humongous gas prices. Unfortunately, he uses my computer, his laptops, and my desk. So I'm SOL when it comes to actually getting any posting time when he's home. This is my moment to steal the desk while he's actually eating some dinner! Muahahaha. I have spent some time shopping lately and wow, do I love springy, summery colors. Thanks to the fashion police, I'm well informed on the latest and greatest : )

Oh my....my first thought after clearing out the shelves was, "Wow, how did I not see all of these crumbs?" My second thought was, "Wow, I'm grateful nobody has seen these because I should be ashamed!"

My Attempts at Easter....

Every year we have a fabulous Easter egg hunt at my parent's home. Every family is in charge of bringing a basket full of a special treat for each person. We then hide the baskets in addition to eggs and everyone gets a ton of stuff! For example: My sister-in-law brought a basket full of Pringle cans. My other sister brought containers of cookies for each person to have. I had a great idea, why doesn't everyone grab a cupcake from mine?!!!

So these were my inspirations:

and I can totally make delicious cupcakes!

So here was my attempt. The nests I made by mixing melted milk chocolate chips and semi-sweet chocolate chips with Asian noodles.

After dolloping a good nest size on a greased baking sheet, I put on the eggs immediately.

The cupcakes were super simple. I used a yellow cake mix with added vanilla extract.

The butter cream was what made them so special. It was fluffy, delicious, and oh-so-bad for me! I even made mini cupcakes for the kids or for individuals who just wanted a small bite.

Problem one arose when we had so many treats, desserts, and candy, that almost everyone took their cupcakes home. Problem two was that I ate all the left over nests MYSELF!!! Diet starts Monday?

My second Easter attempt was bunny rolls.

some definitely lost their ears in the baking process.

What can I say? I attempted to be festive but, not everything worked out.

That's okay, I guess.

My Finished Bathroom!

Finally, I finished the bathroom since my daughter ripped the towel rack out of the wall!

First I used a mesh patch and covered it in a joint compound.

After it dried, I sanded it and reapplied to even out the meshy-er areas.

After sanding it again and wiping off the dust it was time for paint!

I can't even tell you what color it is. I want to say that this beautiful grey-blue color is a Martha Stewart brand and I think it was called "Dolphin." Don't quote me on that though.

A Trailer as a Home?

The first thought that came to my mind was cramped. But, Andreas Stavropoulos thought that a 1959 Airstream travel trailer was what he wanted to live in. This is a story of efficiency because you'd have to make use of every possible space available in this thing. I was totally impressed that he even came up with this idea!

He stripped the paint off both ends of the trailer to show the bright aluminum.

Obviously, there's no closet but, he makes do. He kept the original stove to retain some authenticity of the trailer.

Andreas also built a ginormous pull-out drawer to keep the rest of his clothes in. Genius!

Finally, it's Sunday!

I was at the gym Thursday morning trying to push through my normal workout but, I just didn't feel right. 1 1/2 hours into it I finally threw in the towel, grabbed the kids and went home because I felt so sick. Beware people, this was an achey, nausea filled flu day. It was so bad that I had to call my Mom to come get my kids. I got out of bed at 6:30 p.m. just to sip some Diet Coke! Yeah, it was that bad. Since my husband wouldn't let me got to the gym Friday, fearing that I would overdo it, I decided to paint the bathroom a beautiful blue-grey due to some awesome inspirational photos.

I can't wait to show you the photos! It turned out so perfect. Unfortunately, doing all that work while sick kind of took me out for the rest of the day, but soooo worth it. Stay tuned for the reveal. I'm going to have to find the energy to finish decorating it now.

I know you are too, so don't try and lie to me about it. Don't roll your eyes and think, "Oh, you too?" I did NOT jump on a band wagon. This is ridiculously cool to watch. Nicole Curtis is amazing. She can build, she sands, she designs, she demolishes, but in the end....she has some pretty jaw-droppingly gorgeous results! I cannot say, "no" to watching this show if it's on. It's like my list of to-dos go out the window and I'm concentrating so hard!

Get Used to Disappointment.

The list of things that have gone wrong this week are endless. I thought of doing a low budget flower arrangement and I found some great options at the dollar store!

I wasn't loving the butterflies and flowers on the side so I thought I'd spray paint it a dull bronze. Literally the day it was drying in the garage, my daughter either stepped on it or ran her bike into it. This is what I found:

She seemed unconcerned and said, "It's okay, Mom. It was just an accident."

I guess that project is going to be postponed.

The day after that I heard her quietly calling my name in the other room. I finally came in to see what she needed and low and behold, she completely ripped the towel rack out of our wall.

I was so annoyed and frustrated! I said, "What did Mommy say about swinging on the towel rack?!!!"

She said, "Mom, Mom, calm down....it was just an accident." AAAAHHH!!!!

The towel rack is now inhabiting our tub because, let's be honest, where am I going to put it? I guess the only good thing after I'll have to patch and sand the wall is that I can repaint my bathroom, right?

I'm trying to look on the bright side people! I didn't love that color anyways......

German Bathroom Design

My mother-in-law lives in England. Thus her weekend getaways are to France and Germany. I tend to look up the interiors of whatever country she's visiting just out of pure curiosity. I was pleasantly surprised to find a German manufacturer that actually customizes bathroom furniture to a designer's wants. The company is called Hansgrohe and their bathroom line is "Axor." Look at the differences in these bathtubs!

I think what was most fascinating is that the first three images are very modern and sleek. Yet, the last one is very french and ornate! I love the last one the best! But, talk about versatility!

West Elm Wants....

I have a small bathroom that I painted a gorgeous, deep gold/yellow. I found the perfect rug to match the room but, could not find a unique, yet attractive shower curtain to make the room pop. In comes West Elm's shower curtain:

In addition to the curtain I found Apothecary Jars

that would be perfect for storing my little girl's hair accessories.

I also want these gorgeous Gold Porcelain Trays.

I think they might be a little large for the room, but a girl can dream can't she?!

Now I just need to sit back and wait for a sale to happen.....

....or my budget to increase?!

Quiche

I'm a huge fan of crustless quiches using egg whites for dinner.

I just happened to have a premade pie crust in the refrigerator and thought, "Hmmm...I'll bet my husband would love the 'Real McCoy' quiche." Luckily I have roasted vegetables left over from Sunday dinner. As it is, broccoli is what's mostly left. So, my quiche would actually look more like this.

Here's my own recipe:
1 9 inch pie crust
2 egg whites
2 whole eggs
1 Cup of skim milk
1 Cup cooked vegetables
1/3 Cup mozzarella
1 tsp Rosemary
1tsp Thyme
1/2 tsp garlic salt
salt and pepper to taste

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients (except the pie crust, obviously). You can add any other meat or veggies if you want. Place uncooked crust in a greased pie pan and cover any overhanging crust with tinfoil to prevent burning. Pour in your egg and veggie mixture and sprinkle more cheese over the top. Bake for about 45 minutes to an hour. I actually check it at the half hour mark because my oven is so hot!

She then asked me if tomorrow was "Spongebob Squarepants Day." It then occurred to me that she was thinking of Spongebob's friend, Patrick! Wow, do I have some teaching to do! I'm so ready for summer. I can already tell that my itch to buy summer clothes could be detrimental to my financial status...hmmm...that's okay. I think it's worth it!
I'll let you know how the sizing accuracy is when they arrive. Rarely do I ever order the right size!

Tip: I buy swimming suits frequently. If there's a swim top or bottom that you really like, buy it in black or brown. That way you can have those pieces for a couple of years and add different patterned pieces (with coordinating colors) to use with that one bottom or that one top!

Good News and Bad News.

The good news is that I won the giveaway over at Tiptoe Butterfly's Blog! Yeah! This is awesome because I've never won anything. So, thanks Erika! The bad news is also very sad news over the tragedy in Japan.

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were saying bodies were washing up on the shore and as many as 88,000 people are estimated to be missing.

(They said not dead necessarily, just unaccounted for.) I hope we all spend this weekend enjoying our loved ones. I know that I'm counting my blessings and am extremely grateful for my good fortunes.

I Have a Hot Date Tonight!

It's my anniversary! The hubs and I wanted to do dinner and a movie, but babysitter can only spare time for dinner. (Thanks, Mom.) Thus far I received this yummy "Incredible" perfume from Victoria's Secret.

And this smellicious lotion to match!

It's embarrassing to admit this but, I have a huge collection of perfume. For whatever occasion, my husband buys me perfume because I love it so much. I'm literally that woman who walks by and people are thinking, "Wow, that's a strong scent." I can't help it. Hate me and my delicious smells if you must, but I love it!

Amish Friendship Bread

My friends were coming to visit last Friday. Amidst all of the bustle and stress of a sick child, I called and told them that I just couldn't do it. The bad friend I am but, a really good friend at recognizing my guilt, I decided to make them Amish Friendship bread.

Problem numero uno, I didn't have the Amish bread starter. No worries I found a delicious recipe without the starter! Problem number two: the recipe calls for a box of vanilla pudding and I had none. But, I did have chocolate...hmmm...I'm doing it.

Can I tell you something? This stuff rocks the house. Apparently there are a ton of different Amish bread recipes you can choose from. Apple Cinnamon, Caramel Pecan, Blueberry, Chocolate Almond Joy, and the list goes on! Check all the options out here!

Amish Friendship Bread

1 cup oil
1/2 cup milk
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
In a separate bowl combine the following dry ingredients and mix well:
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1-1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 - (5.1 oz) box instant vanilla pudding
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup nuts
Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Mix and pour into two well greased and sugared bread pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.

My daughter is going again to the doctor today for more blood tests. Apparently, in addition to Alopecia, she might be anemic. So here we go again. Isn't it crazy how having a sick child affects every part of your life, specifically your sleep?! I just toss and turn with worry and can't shut down for the night. I'm hoping we'll have some closure to all of her issues today. Wish me luck so I might be able to sleep peacefully again!

Happy Birthday!

It was my little girl's birthday the other day! I cannot believe how big she is getting. She was recently diagnosed with Alopecia (hair loss and baldness on her head) and has had a hard couple of weeks.

So, I decided to make it a special day and take her mind off of her hair. Her and I went to "Tangled" together and then we got pizza for the party dinner. I had let her pick what cake I was going to make...mistake number 1. (I knew it was going to be chocolate.) The second mistake I made was letting her look at Picky Palate's Blog to check out what cake she wanted. It was this:

It's a cake with a scoop of ice cream in the batter! It was crazy how delicious it was!

It was way moist, super chocolatey, and we decorated it with hearts and shaved chocolate. If you need a good cake recipe for a pig out weekend, head here! I only made it three layers and it was still huge! Thanks for inventing this cake, Jenny!

Decisions, decisions........

You know how there's an idea in your head over a space in your home and your only problem is that you're too afraid to do it? That's me. You see when we built our home, I chose basically the standard options because it was the most affordable. The problem now is, I hate the colors or style in some of the rooms. My kitchen has dark wood, dark counter tops, and dark tile. I really would like to paint the cabinets two tones to brighten it up with a lighter back splash. Issue number 1: Do I really want to paint over the cabinets that I actually upgraded? 2: How are painted cabinets for resale value? and 3: What are good colors with a dark silestone counter and dark tile?

I seriously need some advice. Please help.

A Flourless, Sugarless, Oil-Free Cookie?

My daughter asked me today if we could make cookies together. Lately, I've been on this flourless/oil-free peanut butter cookie trip.

I tend to try and lessen sugar in every recipe but, in this particular one I used Splenda. Wow. I even added a ghastly amount of chocolate chips and I still tasted the peanut butter.

These are super peanut-buttery! I justify that I can eat six of these cookies because of the lack of flour, sugar, and oil....that's how crazy I am over these. The recipe is:

Ingredients

1 cup creamy peanut butter
3/4 cup sugar (I used Splenda)
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt (I didn't add any)
1 cup semisweet chocolate morsels (you know I doubled this amount)
Parchment paper

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Stir together peanut butter and next 4 ingredients in a medium bowl until well blended. Stir in chocolate morsels.

2. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto parchment paper-lined baking sheets.
3. Bake at 350° for 12 to 14 minutes or until puffed and lightly browned. Cool on baking sheets on a wire rack 5 minutes. Transfer to wire rack, and let cool 15 minutes.

Note: If you add alternative sugar make sure you lessen the cooking time. I only baked mine for about 10 min.

As I mentioned before, I have made these a lot lately....I mean A LOT. So my daughter asked if we could make something else.

Who doesn't? They're salty, chocolatey, buttery goodnesss!

Recipe:
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup graham crackers crumbs, crushed fine
1/2 cup + 1/4 cup coconut flakes
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (This was my only topping in addition to coconut)
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 can condensed milk
1 cup unsalted walnuts, chopped
1 cup Heath’s toffee bits
1 cup mini marshmallows

Preheat oven at 325 degrees. Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
Spread the above ingredients in layers, in the order indicated, starting with the butter and ending with the marshmallows as topping.
Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes or till done. (I bake mine at 350 for 18-20 min)
When done, cool on counter. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight, covered in plastic wrap. Slice into bars.

A Great End Table

I've been looking for a round, pedestal, side table for the family room. The problem has been that I just can't find one that suits me. The last couple of Christmas's my parents have gotten us a piece of furniture. I told my mom that I was looking for a side table kind of like this:

Never doubt a stylish mother. She got me an even better table from the same place! It's white, round, has decorative decals and is a pedestal table! I'm in love!

Notice the pillow and the iphone on the floor? My hubs was lounging in his underwear and I made him move for the picture. He was definitely annoyed at his comfort being disturbed! At least the blinds were closed!

As you can see, I took too long and they had to sit down to lounge again. Will I ever learn?

Option 2 For the Guest Room....

I mentioned earlier that I had two ideas for my guest room. As promised here's the second option. I love this option...I really do. I do realize that it's way traditional, and a little blah on color. I've really been debating about sharing this with you but, I realize nobody is perfect and you'd probably rather see it less than perfect than not at all! So.... this is what I have thus far:

Keep in mind that the room is painted a deep gold almost mustard color. I'll also have this green dresser that I painted to add a little color to the room.

I'm thinking I need to add a little blue somehow. I just love that pop of "something" that blue adds. Hmmm....Back to the drawing board.

Guest Room!

I can't believe the year is over! My resolution for this year is to finish the empty and undecorated rooms in my house. I'm such a lucky daughter. Our guest room has been sitting empty because it just hasn't been in our budget to get a bed or furniture. My parents are getting a new mattress and gave us their King Size bed! Now I'm getting ideas on how to decorate the room! The walls are a rich golden color and I don't want to change that gorgeous shade. I also want to use the green dresser that I painted in the decor.

I'm thinking of a couple different options. My option one is fun with this super chunky black headboard and colorful bedspread.

Guess What I Got For Christmas.....

Yep! My hubs totally shocked me and bought us a piano! I'm so excited! I still can't believe he hid this from me. I also got a lovely new table and an awesome sewing machine! I was seriously spoiled. I'll have those pictures after the holidays since family-in-town is taking all of my time. But, finding a place for new pieces in your home is a ridiculous challenge! Toys included!

Will my home ever be organized again? Sigh.

Amidst a ridiculous amount of listening to "Elf" and "White Christmas" I think I lost my mind somewhere. I've literally been so busy that I've forgotten so many things that I was supposed to do! There has been a lot of laughter, fortunately, and that has saved my sanity somewhat. My daughter loves the Hanes' Sisters from White Christmas. She sings, "Sisters...Sisters!" All day! She even told me she was the Hanes Monster. I asked what that was and she said, "It's like the sisters...but mean."

Oh, the thoughts of a child. Fortunately I saw these images and loved them. I'm feeling the energy coming back already!

Christmas Baking!

Yowzah! Every year I bake a boat load of cookies and treats for the neighbors, for gifts, or just for family parties. When I'm browsing blogs, I save recipes that look good for my "Christmas Goodies!" This is my list thus far:

Cinnamon Rolls

Tomorrow is my neighborhood Christmas party. They're having breakfast with Santa! I volunteered to make cinnamon rolls because I have a delicious recipe from Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook.

Nigella Lawson's Hokey Pokey

This is also known as Sea Foam or Honeycomb. This could be the easiest candy to make known to man...er woman

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup dark corn syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

In a small saucepan off the heat, combine the sugar and corn syrup and stir together. Place over medium high heat. Do not stir. Allow the sugar and corn syrup to melt together and begin to bubble and darken - about 3-5 minutes.

Remove the pan from the heat and immediately whisk in the baking soda. The mixture will bubble and turn light gold. Quickly pour the mixture onto a piece of parchment paper.

Allow to cool for at least 30 minutes, then break up into shards and enjoy.

Contemplating Christmas Trees

I always love a good montage of a subject where I can see all the different possibilities that entail. I think I'm finally getting in the mood for Christmas. Usually, I'm so stressed over the holidays trying not to gain weight, get everyone's gifts while avoiding massive check-out lines, making sure those gifts will be loved, having a clean home, get to the gym, bake cookies, aaaah!!!! you can see where I lose my priorities. So this year, I made myself a goal to only think positive thoughts consisting of, "It's okay that you had that brownie, it's Christmas." or "That person must be in a bigger hurry than I am to cut me off like that; it IS Christmas." and "If they don't like it, I'll take for myself! It's MY CHRISTMAS!" In all seriousness I do love Christmas trees. They make me feel happy, they're all unique, and they absolutely exude Christmas spirit!

I have to admit...I threw away a lot of my Christmas decorations and I'm feeling pressed to find more. Here's my tree:

Missing ornaments...Check

Bare lower half of the tree due to toddler sabotage....Check.

Dingy, old tree skirt....Check

I have been able to put up my manger scene without any destruction from the "Little Man"

But, no greenery in the manger scene because he would tear it out.

Here I'm wishing I hadn't thrown out that garland I was so sick of.

24 days until Christmas? That can't be right....Oh, well. I guess with all my efforts to remain positive, I'm still going to have loads of stress slapped in my face! C'est la vie!

I Love To Be Stylin!!!

I'm so flattered that Ruth, from The Beautiful Life, awarded me the "Stylish Blogger Award"!!! How sweet is that?

I now get to share 7 facts about myself that you probably didn't know and award 7 other stylish bloggers for you to check out!

Okay, here goes:

1) I am the middle child out of seven. There are two boys and five girls and I totally love it. All of us are married except for two girls. All of us have children who are married except for one daughter. Whenever we get together, it is raucously loud, due to our massive crowd. This is usually every Sunday. I'm very close to my family and funny enough, we even get together during the week just for fun! I guess we're so loud and intimidating that my brother-in-law, when he first met us, disappeared in the basement because he was so overwhelmed. In fact, he still hides in the basement every so often to avoid the crowded main floor. (My parents have a large house but, nonetheless, it is crowded with 20 plus people running around).

( This picture is only of me, some of my siblings, and some of their spouses....missing a couple due to babysitting our children!)

2) I love an expensive, well served vacation as well as anyone else....but, every year I look forward to our family vacation in this cute little "Park City-like" town in McCall, ID. We always rent a huge house to fit all of us (siblings, parents, and grand kids included). We go hiking, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing, etc. That said, Like Ruth from The Beautiful Life, I hate to camp. I freeze my tushi off every time.

I even went on this vacation fully pregnant because I would be darned if I had to miss something I look forward to so much. I ended up being in labor a lot of the time and had the baby two weeks later. It was so worth it!

3) I'm a gym rat. I know this is a problem in some cases because Thanksgiving morning I was at the gym at 6:00 a.m. and left at 10:00 a.m.! Thankfully, my mother is a very svelte, fit woman who instilled the importance of exercise in me.

I HAVE to be extremely disciplined in my eating because I totally love food! I'm the type that I can't even try anything because I won't stop until it's gone. So my solution is to not start! My kids go to the daycare at the gym every morning and love it. I get my workout time, they get their social time...It's perfect!

4) I love to bake. Every night I have a slice of sugar-free, oil-free banana bread for my dessert. I'm THAT crazy over this bread.

I'm a total choc-aholic in the worst way. I have literally baked every brownie, chocolate chip cookie, or dessert bar imaginable without butter or sugar so I can add a ridiculous amount of chocolate chips. I mean a ridiculous amount.

I find baking comforting. It's a place I can be creative, I'm not wasteful, and it brings my family together. Almost every Sunday, my daughter and I will make a treat together and it's a time I look forward to.

5) I'm a cheapo and a remorseful buyer. I drive a car that runs but, is by no means a luxury vehicle. I'll buy a lot of clothes or home decor while shopping and then take back at least half of it because I feel guilty over putting wants over needs!

That said, I have asked the hubs for a nice, new car, and I have a lot of nice clothes. But, I do love a good dollar store or flea market steal where I can find something for an awesome price!

6) I'm a germ-a-phobe. I clean constantly. In fact, someone asked my daughter what I did for a living and she said, "My mom cleans." I'm sure every mother feels like that. There's something about a feeling of insecurity if I don't have wet-wipes with me at all times.

It's the times that I don't have them when I need them the most! I have a ridiculous amount of hair. I fear that it's going to wipe against a toilet while cleaning or a dirty counter! I'll do my hair, which takes a while, and pretty much reluctantly yet immediately pull it up because I don't want it touching anything unclean! I'm sure my cleaning obsession is borderline OCD, but I do feel that my children get less sick than others because I'm sanitizing the home ritually.

and finally....

7) I would love to go on a cruise. I know it's crazy, but I've never been on one! We've done some pretty fun vacations, but I would love to go on a huge cruise ship. I would love to sample all of the delicious foods, go on fun adventures on the shore, and just soak up the sun!

Problem 1: My husband is a complete whitey. We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and decided to go to the beach. Fifteen minutes later, even after putting loads of sunscreen on, he was fried. Poor man. I've never had to deal with that, gratefully. Problem 2: I'm somewhat afraid of sharks.....childish, yes. But, I am! I know we'll go someday but, until then, I'm dreaming!

Today is my birthday! After a weekend of celebrating with birthday dinners, today is the day my husband and I actually get to celebrate with just the two of us. My mother made me a delicious spice cake with penuche frosting yesterday that was out of this world.

I guess I could skip another day of cake since Thanksgiving is this weekend, but why ruin the fun! The hubs and I are headed out to a movie and dinner. I probably won't make it back to the computer until the holiday is over....

I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving!

Eat too much, laugh too loud, and take too long of a nap!

Inspiration Photos For Distressed Dressers.....

hmmm....Maybe I SHOULD do the brown glaze to antique my dresser. These pictures always make me change my mind!

Distressed Dresser

When my husband and I got married, we inherited some of his childhood furniture. This dresser was old. I mean peeling wood, broken drawers, dull stain and varnish kind-of-OLD! It's been sitting in the garage because I have procrastinated facing this Ugly.

It has horrendous hardware that somehow suggested an obsession of a Texas sports team....which The Hubs isn't even a fan!

I sanded the entire dresser with a pretty rough grade. After I re-sanded with a finer grade just to smooth it out.

I used a Gripper primer. This primer can go on pre-stained or painted woods without the need of sanding. I chose to sand the dresser just in case!

I chose "Garden Sage" from Sherwin-Williams as my paint color. As shown here, it's in my empty, but finished basement. I'm going to put it in the guest room where the walls are a buttery/golden yellow.

I spackled the holes where the old hardware had been before. I sanded down the spackle and then painted the drawers.

The hardware is from Home Depot. Easy as pie.

I chose not to use a brown glaze to antique it at the last minute. I decided I liked the clean green look. Funny, because I really wanted to antique this "distressed dresser" due to some very inspirational dresser photos. (To be shared later...) Hopefully, I made the right decision!

I'm so sorry I've been MIA lately. My son has had a cough for over two months and finally I decided it was time to fork over the moolah and head to the doctor's. They said that because of having RSV earlier in the year, he'll struggle to completely get rid of any cough. So back on the nebulizer he goes and my frustration only continues! I decided that I needed a treat that night. I made No-Bake Cookies! They were absolutely delicious and totally out of character for me to crave..hmmm. Anyways, I made some changes to the recipe viewed in red.

2 cups sugar
4 Tb cocoa
1 stick butter
1/2 cup milk
1 cup peanut butter (I didn't add any)
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1 Tb vanilla
3 cups oatmeal
In a heavy saucepan bring to a boil sugar, cocoa, butter and milk. Let boil for one minute and add peanut butter, vanilla and oatmeal. (Or if you were me, add coconut and no peanut butter) Drop by tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper or aluminum foil until cooled and hardened.
NOTE: I waited for the mixture to cool a tad and then added some leftover, frozen, chopped candybars and some chocolate chips. This way they didn't melt and I had a delicious chew to my mounds!

Last weekend I was able to experiment with a new recipe I found on Brown Eyed Baker's blog! It was for Pumpkin blondies/brownies.

She said they had the textrue of a gooey, dense brownie but with the pumpkin flavor. Of course I had to try it! I did have chocolate chips to the batter and I can tell you, it was the perfect addition!

Thus far this is my wish list....for my birthday, Christmas, Mother's Day,...ummm Fourth of July? Okay, you can see I'm in love. Are you?!

My Finished Bathroom!

Finally, I was able to finish decorating the basement bathroom before the holidays hit. This was the before: I didn't even have cabinets or a counter yet, or paint for that matter!

I chose a camel/tan color for the bathroom. I believe it's called buff or something like that.

and the final.....

This picture's frame was a really dark brown.

I painted it off-white after lightly sanding it down. After it was painted, I sanded it again to antique it a bit.

In the end, I was pretty pleased with the outcome. We saved money by doing the tiling and painting ourselves. We chose a ceramic tile with glass tiled accents. This way we could afford granite counter tops. My husband did the floor in a diamond pattern that I just love. Most of our accessories were from secondhand stores, on clearance, or something we already had. Yeah for being thrifty!

Project Runway Finale!

I can't believe I'm so behind on posting about this. My husband actually watched the finale with me and him and I were both shocked. Didn't everyone think Mondo was going to win....I mean did they even look at Gretchen's collection? My husband actually asked me if her theme was safari inspired said in complete seriousness and confusion. I loved Mondo's fun interpretation of design. It was refreshing, bright, fun, and yes maybe it looked a littler teenager-ish but, they buy clothes too! When the judges were arguing over the winner, I turned to my husband and said, "Michael Kors is going to get what he wants because he IS a designer, and he's probably got the most stubborn head there!" Yep, he wanted Gretchen and she one. (I really didn't mind her so much, it's just that I loved Mondo!)

I think it was a waste of my time and anxiety levels reaching their peak....Was it a waste of yours?
